Despite its exceptional speed, the lens remains surprisingly compact: With a length ideal for working with rangefinder cameras and a weight of just 267 g (without accessories), it sits lightly and comfortably in the hand. The short length also reduces vignetting in the viewfinder image—a real advantage when working with optical viewfinders.

Main features:

  • Focal length : 40 mm (for full format)
  • Aperture : f/1.2 – ideal for available-light photography and selective focus
  • Optical construction : 8 elements in 6 groups, including 4 aspherical surfaces
  • Focusing range : 0.5 m to ∞ (rangefinder coupled up to 0.7 m)
  • Mount : VM bayonet (compatible with Leica M)
  • Manual focus with precise metal mechanics and optimal torque
  • High-quality manufacturing “Made in Japan”

The optical design comprises eight elements in six groups, including two double-sided aspherical lenses. The minimum focusing distance in rangefinder mode is 0.7 m – with Live View, focusing is even possible down to 0.5 m. This opens up additional possibilities for detailed shots and creative perspectives.

The precisely manufactured solid metal focusing unit, together with a high-quality lubricant, ensures velvety-smooth, sensitive focusing – perfect for demanding manual photography.

The lens mounts via a VM mount, which is fully compatible with the Leica M mount. The lens not only works well with classic rangefinder cameras, but also performs excellently on mirrorless digital cameras with an adapter – both technically and optically.

For optimal protection from stray light, we recommend the optional metal lens hood. This is available as a compact version (LH-14) or a longer version (LH-15). Both models can be mounted upside down for space-saving transport.

For our fans: Differences from version 1: the overall weight has been further reduced (315 g vs. 267 g), and the filter ring is now completely black (instead of silver). The optical design has not been changed.
